What sets First Premier apart?

There are several aspects of First Premier that set it apart from other home warranty companies. These include:

A wide range of coverage options: Between their two plans and their optional add-ons, First Premier offers coverage for air conditioning, heating, plumbing, electrical needs, septic systems and home appliances. This is more comprehensive than what many other home warranty companies offer. First Premier also offers optional roof

Customization: In addition to their standard plans, First Premier also has several add-on options that you can add to your plan. This level of customization isn’t common among home warranty companies and provides additional peace of mind for homeowners.

Affordable pricing: Although the cost of a First Premier home warranty depends upon the plan and add-ons you select as well as your location, their plans are almost always on the lower end of the pricing spectrum.

Plan Pricing

There are two primary costs associated with a home warranty, the service fee (also referred to as the deductible), and the premium. The service fee is the amount you’ll pay every time you require assistance from a technician; the premium is the amount you’ll pay on a monthly or yearly basis for the duration of the contract.

At the time of this review, First Premier charges a service fee of $60. Given that the industry average hovers around $75, this is a very affordable option for the cost conscious crowd.

The First Premier premium depends upon a number of factors, including the plan you select, the add-ons you choose (these range from $35 to $150) as well as the type, location and size of your home. On average, you can expect to pay around $400 per year for their Premier plan. This is also on the lower end of the spectrum compared to many other companies of its kind.

First Premier’s Coverage Limitations and Exclusions

First Premier’s policies have some exclusions and limitations that you should be aware of before signing up. These include:

  • Maintenance is not covered
  • Cosmetics are not covered
  • Service is not available in all 50 states

Exceptional service: First Premier has a rigorous technician screening process, ensuring that the professionals doing the repairs are the best at what they do.

Cost: First Premier’s plans are on the cheaper end compared to similar home warranty companies.

Customization: Customers appreciate that with First Premier, they can create a customized plan that includes only the appliances and systems they need covered.

Efficiency: Because First Premier deals directly with the manufacturers of the systems and appliances in need of repair, the company is efficient in processing claims and getting repairs done in a timely manner.

First Premier vs. Other Home Warranty Companies

If you’re looking for comprehensive coverage at an affordable price point, First Premier is a solid choice. Here’s how this home warranty company stacks up against other top home warranty companies, including American Home Shield, Choice Home Warranty and Liberty Home Guard.

First Premier vs American Home Shield

First Premier and American Home Shield are both solid home warranty companies with a lot to offer. Both companies offer a few different plan options, each providing varying levels of coverage. And both offer an impressive menu of coverage add-ons you can select to create a more customized plan.

American Home Shield services more states than First Premier—48 compared to 32 at the time of this review, and they have experience on their side—they’ve been in business for roughly 50 years. But First Premier tends to be more affordable. American Home Shield’s minimum average home warranty cost per year is $480. First Premier will cost you, on average, around $400 per month. First Premier’s most basic package also covers more appliances than American Home Shield’s basic bundle (dishwasher, microwave and oven, for example). To get the same level of coverage out of American Home Shield, you’ll have to upgrade to a more expensive plan.

First Premier vs Choice Home Warranty

Like First Premier, Choice Home Warranty offers two plans as well as extra coverage options you can select on an “a la carte” basis. Choice Home Warranty has the added benefit of a 24/7 claims hotline, which means claims are processed and serviced very quickly. But Choice Home Warranty will likely cost you more than First Premier—we were quoted at $520 per year for our location and home type; First Premier quoted us at $420 for the same address and house size.

First Premier vs Liberty Home Guard

Liberty Home Guard has been around long enough to build a solid reputation—U.S. News and World report rated it the number one home warranty company in 2021 and 2022; they have an A grading from the Better Business Bureau; and an impressive 4.7 out of five stars on Google Reviews. Liberty Home Guard also services 48 states, which is more than First Premier. But you’ll pay more for Liberty Home Guard—nearly $600 per year if you want coverage for both systems and appliances in a single family home spanning fewer than 5,000 square feet. First Premier will cost you less than $500 for a similar level of coverage in the same sized home.

The Verdict

First Premier is not your average one size fits all, out-of-the-box home warranty provider. Their coverage is comprehensive, and their add-ons offer ultimate peace of mind to customers looking for a more customized home warranty experience. They are also one of the most affordable home warranty companies on the market, making them a great option for homeowners seeking protection without breaking the bank.
